Our Pricing

The cost of your order, including shipping and handling of your books (typically $20-$30) is due when you place your order. The minimum order is 10 books. We accept checks, or you can pay us online through PayPal.

For a typical Books By Mode book (formatted yourself) — up to 200 pages (40,000 to 50,000 words) with pages 8.5x5.5 inches and no graphics or illustrations in the text — printing costs are:
First printing of 10 copies: $175
Second printing of 10 copies: $125
All subsequent printings of 10 copies: $85

For 5.5x8.5-inch books of 200-350 pages (formatted yourself): (40,000 to 80,000 words):
First printing of 10 copies: $225
Second printing of 10 copies: $175
All subsequent printings of 10 copies: $125

For larger (8.5x11-inch) books with up to 100 pages (formatted yourself):
First printing of 10 copies: $200
Second printing of 10 copies: $150
All subsequent printings of 10 copies: $125

For 8.5x11-inch books with 100-200 pages (formatted yourself):
First printing of 10 copies: $225
Second printing of 10 copies: $175
All subsequent printings of 10 copies: $150

Our prices are based on the assumption that you'll use our standard 20-pound recycled bright white paper and 110-pound cover stock. Other paper or cover stock choices will cost slightly more.

Ask about rates for books with graphics. If you have formatted your book and there are few graphics, added charges will be minimal.

Ask about rates for books of more than 350 pages in trade paperback or 200 pages in the larger format.

Ask about rates for linen-finish covers, glossy covers, and full-color covers. For most books, we can offer upgraded cover stock for an additional 50 cents to $2 per copy. Full-color covers typically cost an additional $1 per copy.

Proofs

When placing your initial order, we recommend ordering a proof copy of your book. That way you can look it over and let us know any changes you’d like to make before we print your whole order. If the changes you want are minimal, we’ll make them for free. Otherwise, we’ll negotiate a price with you. Proofs cost $20, including shipping and handling.

Returns

WE DO NOT ACCEPT RETURNS OR MAKE REFUNDS. We will not return money. We make our books by hand, in a labor-intensive process. If you're worried about quality, order a proof and a small (10-book) first run.
